Should I Turn My Mattress?

Many customers come into our showroom and ask this question in regards to turning their mattresses. It is regularly spoken about how you should turn your mattress frequently to keep its long life however is it right thing to do?

Usually higher quality mattresses are manufactured with lots of natural fillings and fibres which mean that body indentations are quite a normal characteristic however to ensure that the fillings settle and compact down more evenly then you should turn the mattress regularly even though there will still be some natural indentations showing the contours of your body.

It is advised that you read the instructions from the manufacturer which will have been supplied with your mattress in order to see what they best recommend for their particular mattress as this can change across different mattress types and brands.

Generally Prestige Beds recommend that you turn your mattress from side to side and top to bottom every week for the first month and then following this around every three months to ensure that deep indentations are prevented.

For mattresses which recommend you not to turn them so the non-turn mattresses then you should not turn them over but rather just rotate them around and this can help to eradicate any indentations from being made permanent.

With the advancements in technology there are a number of mattresses which do not require turning or rotating and these are a popular choice for the elderly and the disabled although for those with a busy life schedule they are ideal too.

Currently these non-turn mattresses are available as a pocket sprung mattress and an open coil mattress so there is one suitable for all. Handles which are featured on the mattresses can help with positioning of it however many people use these to lift the full weight of the mattress and this is not what they are designed for.

If you require a low maintenance mattress which doesn’t need turning then please do not hesitate to contact for advice or alternatively come into one of our stores and speak to our highly experienced sales staff. They are exceptionally knowledgeable and on hand to help you not hinder!
