People often complain about back pain and neck pain and more often than not they will associate this with their mattress when in actual fact the problem could be with their pillows.
Many of us will just pick a pillow quite quickly and know what type we require however others of us may take the time to look at the options available to us. There are so many choices when it comes to selecting a pillow from:
- Fibre Filled
- Polyurethane Foam
There are also a number of combination pillows available too. They all come in varying sizes and shapes as well as those moulded in order to provide support to the head. Just as choosing a mattress is your own choice and very subjective so is choosing your pillows.
What you need to ensure when selecting a pillow is that it is supportive enough to hold your head in the correct alignment in relation to your shoulders and spine as if you were standing upright – providing you don’t slouch!
The head should be supported fully and as many people require just one pillow a number of others may request more however this again is a subjective choice dependent upon what your preferred sleeping position is.
Something to make you cringe; an old and unwashed pillow can contain as much as 10% of its weight in skin scales, mould as well as dead and living dust mites inclusive of their allergen laden droppings – attractive? We think not!
It is a good idea to change your pillows every two to three years or when they become lumpy, discoloured or lose their shape.
Prestige Beds have a full range of pillows available which are of extreme high quality and can help you to get a proper night’s sleep without having to wake up to back pain or pain in the neck.
