The general rule is that the heavier you are the firmer you will need your mattress too be although this is more of an unwritten rule. When you lie on the mattress you need to ensure that it isn’t too soft as this will cause a slouch in your posture and lead to back pain. In contrast though you cannot have it too firm because then pressure points will be created.
How can I test whether or not a mattress is supportive?
A great way to test whether or not your mattress is suitable is to lie on your back and then there will be a hollow in your back try and slide a flat hand into this hollow. If the hand slides in easily then the bed is too firm as there is a gap presented which makes it easy; on the other hand if it is really difficult to slide your hand in then your sinking into the bed and it is too soft.
